Being an intern of project management at Maritime Silk Road Society is so memorable and interesting. The project that I had been assigned to manage is the Savantas Liberal Arts Academy Public Policy Study Programme Summer 2021. The prerequisite to assist in the management of the study programme series is to attend the lecture. So apart from doing the office work, this job had also provided me an opportunity to attend all these precious seminars on public policy and economic issues to enrich my knowledge in the disciplines that I am pursuing.

I learnt about the relationship between the People's Republic of China and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region as well as the status of the Constitution and Basic Law from Ms. Maria Tam’s lecture, The Basic Law - Original Intent and Fundamental Principles, and learnt about the main content of China's "14th Five-Year Plan" and the country's development prospects, as well as the reasons why China plans to develop the Greater Bay Area (GBA) and its future development direction from the lectures of Professor Yang and Dr. Fang Zhou.

I learnt about the concept of a sustainable society, and to try to think outside the box, to find solutions in public administration from the perspective of social innovation as well as to think comprehensively, not just to solve the problem at the superficial level from Professor Lam’s lecture, Social Innovation for Sustainable Society.

But the most intriguing topic for me must be Mr.  Joseph Yam’s The Status of Hong Kong as an International Financial Centre. Mr. Yam discussed a lot of big topics with us, including Hong Kong's currency and finance system, government budget, international monetary system, economic growth, balance of trade, digitalization and internationalization of RMB, modern monetary theory and financial position of China and the United States. He explored whether the US dollar is still the most suitable currency for the linked exchange rate and proposed the possibility of establishing a Special Purpose Vehicle to convert annual expenditures of some large-scale projects, such as Lantau Tomorrow Vision, into investment.

The job duties of project management intern had also equipped me with different abilities, like video-filming, site setting, website stories drafting, etc. I learnt to pay more attention to details and enhanced my bilingual ability. I was also assigned to prepare a report for the Society on research about internship programme in Hong Kong. During the preparation time, I learnt how to become a better self-starter and quick-learner with the ability of working independently.

What I get in this internship are intelligence, insight, and organization and event management abilities.
