A Fruitful Internship Experience

The first destination of our internship programme is Bank of China Training Institute in Beijing. We attended a seven-day programme to familiarise ourselves with information technology (IT) and banking. Information technology plays a pivotal role in the business world today. In a lecture, the speaker pointed out that the top ten biggest companies in the world are mostly IT companies and the emerging digital trends are radically changing the business landscape and reshaping the banking industry. Big data analytics tools are capable of finding current market trends and customer preferences which help financial institutions with formulating and implementing plans.
After that, we returned to Hong Kong for a three-day business etiquette training programme at the Bank of China Centre. Having good business etiquette can foster a more positive work environment and build stronger relationships with customers. Even a subtle gesture can make a huge difference.
In mid-July, we set off for Bangkok. I worked as an IT support technician at Bank of China Bangkok Branch. I was responsible for managing the internal information systems of the bank, such as managing system security, updating and checking whether the system settings complied with the bank’s policies which assigned different permission to users. I also acquired some computer knowledge like Windows command line.
As a business student majoring in information systems, this internship has provided me with hands-on experience in information technology and has deepened my understanding of information security which helps shape my future career. I would like to pursue a career in information systems audit by paying more attention to the economic outlook for the banking industry and key technology trends.
