Talk on "Jesus in the Koran" & Visit
2026-08-18
On 18 August, a delegation of 30 members from the Maritime Silk Road Society (MSRS) visited the Ammar Mosque and Osman Ramju Sadick Islamic Centre in Wanchai. The group was received by Kasim Ma Fung Wai, Chairman of I.U. Da’wah Committee, who delivered a lecture entitled "Jesus in the Koran". As is well known, Jesus is a central figure in Christianity, while the Koran is the core scripture of Islam. Interestingly, the Koran also mentions Jesus in several passages, recounting the story of Maryam (Mary) giving birth to a virgin-born child, Isa (Jesus), and describing the miracles later performed by Jesus, such as healing leprosy, restoring sight to the blind, and raising the dead.
Throughout the lecture, Kasim Ma frequently interacted with the participants, drawing on both the Bible and the Koran to discuss the accounts of Jesus, and MSRS members actively engaged in the discussion. During the Q&A session, members raised a number of questions with great enthusiasm, mainly covering topics such as Islamic doctrine, the hierarchy of prophets, gender equality, and worship rituals.
After the lecture, everyone proceeded to the centre's restaurant for lunch to enjoy a distinctive halal Chinese meal, including dim sum dishes as well as fried dishes – a truly unique culinary experience. Following lunch, Kasim Ma showed the visitors the prayer areas, explaining how worshippers perform their prayers. Finally, members took a group photo with Chairman Ma, bringing the event to a successful conclusion.
