Book-Reading Sharing Session: Belt and Road and the Development of Innovative Enterprises in China

In honour of World Book Day, Maritime Silk Road Society (MSRS) held the “Book-Reading Sharing Session: Belt and Road and the Development of Innovative Enterprises in China” on 23 April. The sharing session was moderated by Mr. Kwok Yat-ming, veteran journalist and vice-president of Hong Kong Federation of Journalists. Mr. Alex Wong, Chief Executive Officer, shared his thoughts on Professor Feng Kaidong’s new book “Rising Waves: the Birth of China’s Innovative Enterprises”.

The book focuses on the strategic restructuring of Chinese enterprises and their system. It thoroughly analyzes the growth of innovative enterprises in the Chinese automotive and telecommunication industries. It also provides those who are interested in the upgrading and restructuring of Chinese innovative enterprises a better insight into the dynamic Chinese industrial process and investigates China’s current innovative transformation. By comparing the industrial development progresses of China and the US, Professor Feng indicates that only through innovation can China resolve the problem of “self-competition” (also known as “internal competition”), and enhance the competitiveness of its industrial products. The author looks forward to a new wave of global industrialization, where there will be a new model that would create a new horizon for the world.

Mr Kwok talked about the prejudice of Western countries towards China’s innovation. He highlighted that China’s innovation comes from China itself, and gave the Chinese programming languages as an example. Although Chinese innovative industries have taken advantages from economic reform and globalization, they are facing more challenges and competition, such as computerized telephone exchanges.

Participants were from various sectors including finance, legal, media, and education. The audience had lively dialogues with the speakers during the seminar regarding legal protection of TikTok short videos and vocational training system of China and Hong Kong. It was an entertaining and informative event.
