Malaysia Update on the "Belt and Road"

2024-02-02

The Maritime Silk Road Society organized the "Malaysia Update on the 'Belt and Road'" Seminar on 2 February. Prof. Wong Wun Bin, Associate Professor and Deputy Dean of Institute of Chinese Studies, Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman, and Dr Au Chi Kin, Associate Professor, Department of History and Director of Tin Ka Ping Teaching and Research Centre for Filial Piety of Hong Kong Shue Yan University, shared their insights on Malaysia's relationship with the "Belt and Road".

Professor Wong first introduced the background of Malaysia participating in "Belt and Road" Initiative and the friendly relationship between the Malaysian government and China. Then, he discussed and analyzed the achievements and development of Malaysia and China in the "Belt and Road" Initiative in the context of the "Five Connections" (Promote Policy Coordination, Facilities Connectivity, Unimpeded Trade, Financial Integration and People-to-people Bonds). Among them, "Unimpeded Trade" such as cross-border industrial chains, agricultural industry, e-commerce industry, automotive industry and sustainable green technology, etc. showed that there is a huge room for development and potential for co-operation between the two countries under the "Belt and Road" Initiative.

During the seminar, participants were actively asking questions and had a lively discussion with Prof. Wong and Dr Au. The atmosphere was enthusiastic.
