Webinar on “Achievements of Archaeological Site of Nanyue Palace”

The webinar on “Achievements of Archaeological Site of Nanyue Palace” was organized by the Maritime Silk Road Society (MSRS) on 13 July. At the invitation of MSRS, Mr Quan Hong, Researcher of Guangzhou Municipal Institute of Cultural Heritage and Archaeology, and President of Guangzhou Association of Cultural Relic and Museum, lectured on the results of archaeological excavations and the work of the museum.

Mr Quan firstly introduced the archaeological excavation process and important results of the Nanyue Palace site, and made an in-depth interpretation of the site’s rich historical and cultural connotation. He gave an account on the history of the construction of the palace by Zhao Tuo of the Nanyue Kingdom. He shared the ancient map of the site, the conditions of the archaeological site at that time, such as the artificial garden water feature pond, stone water canal, the animals and plants growing in the garden, building components, and the historical ending of the Nanyue civilization.

During the Q&A session, Mr Quan answered questions about the living conditions of Nanyue, the role of Nanyue in the development of the Maritime Silk Road, and the decline of the kingdom.
