Webinar on Cambodia Cultural Exploration

Webinar on Cambodia Cultural Exploration organized by the Maritime Silk Road Society (MSRS) was held on 24 June in both online and live mode. Ms Charity Chan, Chairman of Cambodian China Culture Friendship Association, and Dr Au Chi Kin, Assistant Professor, Department of History of Hong Kong Shue Yan University, gave lectures on the history, culture and the modern development of Cambodia.
Dr Au started with the introduction of the history and the current situation of Cambodia. Cambodian civilization originated from Funan, then to the Chenla Dynasty, and followed by the Angkor Dynasty, which is the most powerful era in Cambodia history. During this period, a large number of magnificent buildings were built with its territory spread throughout the Indochina Peninsula, Thailand, Laos and Vietnam. Cambodian culture is deeply influenced by Indian and Chinese culture, and Hinayana Buddhism is the belief of the majority of Cambodians. Under the influence of Buddhist culture, Cambodia has its unique "Cambodian" New Year. In modern times, Cambodia’s economy has gradually taken off and people’s livelihood has improved. Phnom Penh, as the capital of Cambodia, is one of the emerging cities in Asia and has great development potential.
Next, Ms Charity Chan introduced herself as Princess Sultan of Royal Mindanao and said that she has contributed to charity in China, Hong Kong and Cambodia for many years. She said Cambodia’s political system is a constitutional monarchy multi-party liberal democracy. The current capital is Phnom Penh. The vibrant city, dominated by young people, is conducive to economic development. Tourism and gambling industry is the major emerging economy. Cambodia is also an important “Belt and Road” country. Sihanoukville Port is Cambodia's largest seaport and trade center. The local area has been extremely popular with Chinese in recent years to explore business opportunities. In terms of tourism, Angkor Wat is a well-known and mysterious ancient relic in Cambodia. It attracts a large number of tourists every year. Buddhism is the main religion in Cambodia.
In the Q&A session, the onsite and online audience actively posed questions about Cambodia's culture, tourism and business development to the speakers.
