MSRS launches the Silk Road and Chinese Tea Culture Course (Intermediate)

2017-02-07

Further to the Silk Road and Chinese Tea Culture Elementary Course last September, the Maritime Silk Road Society, in response to the requests of the participants, launches the intermediate course on Tuesdays commencing on 7 February for five consecutive weeks.

Tea is not only a daily beverage but a unique part of Chinese traditional culture as well. In the previous course, participants have acquired basic knowledge on Chinese tea, and learnt about the history and culture of the Silk Road and Chinese tea. In this intermediate course, an experienced tea instructor introduces methods of preparing different kind of Chinese tea. Participants take turns to prepare tea so as to learn the key to making good tea. The course is not only suitable for those who have taken the elementary course but also for those who have interest in Chinese tea. They can share their experience in making good tea through interaction with the instructor and other tea lovers.

Tea trade dates back to the Tang Dynasty. Among different tea trading routes, the ‘Tea-Horse Road’ was a key route that connected China to various parts of Asia and Europe before it was overtaken by sea routes. Due to its geographical location, the “Tea-Horse Road” is also known as the “Silk Road of the South”. During some 1,200 years of its history, this Silk Road was not simply a trade route. It enabled cultural and economic exchanges with other countries and regions.
