Mrs Regina Ip Spoke at International Forum for Impact Investing

2026-01-28

Mrs Regina Ip, Convenor of Hong Kong Executive Council and Co-Chair of the Maritime Silk Road Society, delivered her remarks at the opening ceremony of the International Forum for Impact Investing 2026 Theme: “Impact in Action: Forging Resilient Futures” on 28 January.

Making reference to the theme of the International Forum for Impact Investing (IFII), Mrs Ip opined that impact investing offered the practical toolkit to achieve the goals of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) of “high-quality,” “green,” and “people-centered” development.

“By directing capital to solving real problems in digital, service, and creative sectors, we can forge a future that is economically, socially, environmentally, and politically resilient. This convergence can redefine the BRI as a catalyst for equitable, sustainable development,” she concluded.

Also speaking at the opening ceremony were Mr Christopher Hui, Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury of Hong Kong; Mr Zhong Wu, Director General, Finance Center for South-South Cooperation; and Mr Duoguang Bei, Chairman, GSG Impact China National Partner and President, Chinese Academy of Financial Inclusion.

The hosts of the Forum included Finance Center for South-South Cooperation (FCSSC), Chinese Academy of Financial Inclusion Hong Kong Foundation (CAFI HK Foundation), United Nations Industrial Development Organization Investment and Technology Promotion Office Shanghai (UNIDO ITPO Shanghai), Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business (CKGSB) and Shanghai Advanced Institute of Finance, SJTU. The Maritime Silk Road Society is one of the supporting partners.

The 2026 IFII aims to catalyze actionable partnerships and capital deployment across Asia by connecting capital providers with investment opportunities and facilitating cross-border collaboration that addresses critical development financing gaps.

The forum was attended by 250 participants from across the global impact investing ecosystem, including institutional investors, family offices, development finance institutions, social enterprises, policymakers, academics, technology innovators, and sustainability practitioners, creating a dynamic platform for cross-sector dialogue, partnership formation, and knowledge exchange.
