MSRS Organized “Jordan & Middle East Countries Cultural Exploration” Sharing Session
2026-01-19
Following the “Jordan Cultural Tour” launched by the Maritime Silk Road Society (MSRS) in October 2025 in partnership with Travel Theory, MSRS held the “Jordan & Middle East Countries Cultural Exploration” Sharing Session on 19 January, enabling tour members and those interested in the Middle East and Belt and Road countries to relive the trip and experience another humanity journey in the event.
The speakers were veteran journalist and writer Ms Susanna Cheung and Founder of Travel Theory Ms Betsy Tse. Betsy took the initiative to introduce the key parts of Jordan's culturally rich journey, including visiting the Jerash Archaeological Site (also known as the “Pompeii of the Middle East”), wading in Wadi Mujib, touring the “Rose City” of Petra, and enjoying a private meal at the Souf Village prepared by a group of local ladies. Betsy also mentioned inviting two young Palestinian Jordanians to interact with the tour members, visiting a charity organization that takes care of Syrian refugees, and enjoying a vegetarian lunch provided by the centre. She herself led a tour to Syria at the end of 2025 and, at the sharing session, described the country's latest developments in politics, diplomacy, economy, and people’s livelihoods since the 2024 coup.
Ms Susanna Cheung focused on her recent trips to Lebanon and Egypt. She summarized her encounters with local refugees in two segments entitled “A Town Without Seasons – The Forgotten Beirut Palestinian Refugee Camp” and “Humble Yet Great – Hope at a Gaza Primary School in Cairo.” She encouraged the refugees to persevere in their dreams and not give up hope for survival, and expressed wishes that relevant and interested organizations could provide them with support and assistance.
The session concluded with two young people who participated in a trip to Jordan, sharing with the audience their experiences, the people they encountered and their personal feelings.
