MSRS Members Visit "He Cheng" Organic Orchard
2025-12-03
On 3 December 2025, Mr. Alex Wong, CEO of the Maritime Silk Road Society (MSRS), along with MSRS members, took the high-speed train from Hong Kong's West Kowloon Station to Chenzhou City, Hunan Province. They visited a local farm to learn about the entire process of cultivating organic navel oranges. This educational tour covered every stage from seedling cultivation, grafting, and nurturing to planting, fertilizing, irrigating, pest control, harvesting, automated cleaning, inspection, sorting, packaging, and sale. The visit proved to be highly insightful.
Mr. Lee Tao Tak (translation), a Hong Kong entrepreneur, embodies the pioneering spirit of Zhang Qian, the ancient explorer of the Silk Road. In 2004, he participated in the "Walk for Education" fundraising campaign organized by Hong Kong's Sowers Action. Over ten months, he personally funded the construction of 10 Hope Schools along the route. In 2007, Mr. Lee again joined Sowers Action's "Ancient Tea Horse Road"助學行 (Educational Aid Journey). During this three-month endeavor, he personally funded the construction of another 4 Hope Schools in relevant areas and established the "Zhan Xiang Student Aid Foundation" for university students in impoverished regions of Gansu Province. In 2010, Mr. Lee founded "Chenzhou Zhanxiang Green Agriculture Co., Ltd." with his own capital. Starting from scratch with no prior agricultural experience or background, he applied industrial concepts to develop agriculture. The company focuses on cultivating navel oranges using organic methods. To date, an investment of HKD 500 million has been made. The company has evolved into a specialized, large-scale modern agricultural enterprise centered on navel orange cultivation, integrating planting, aquaculture, processing, and leisure tourism into a complete ecological circular industry chain.
Zhanxiang currently operates one nursery base (covering approximately 30 acres, capable of cultivating over 200,000 various citrus seedlings annually), nine navel orange planting bases (totaling over 20,000 acres), and one navel orange agricultural park (covering 171 acres, equipped with facilities for initial processing, deep processing, warehousing, cold storage, logistics, and mold manufacturing, among other agricultural and cultural tourism facilities). "He Cheng" serves as the company's primary brand. It has successively obtained certifications including the Export Fruit Registration Certificate, Green Food Certificate, "G.A.P." Certification, Organic Product Certification, and the British Standards Institution (BSI) Product Carbon Footprint Certification.
MSRS members spent three days and two nights inspecting the agricultural park and experiencing the organic navel orange cultivation process firsthand. They returned to Hong Kong on 5 December 2025.
