2025-05-08
On 8 May, Maritime Silk Road Society (MSRS) organized a visit to the Tseung Kwan O Desalination Plant to gain a better understanding of water supply services provided by the Water Supplies Department and to get across the message of the importance of water conservation. Moreover, the visit also coincided with the 60th Anniversary of Dongjiang Water Supply to Hong Kong.
Prior to their departure to Tseung Kwan O, participants took a group photograph at the Aberdeen Kai-fong Welfare Association. The Chair of MSRS Infrastructure Committee, Mr Chen Jingwei, LegCo Member cum Vice-chair Ms Judy Chan, and Mr NP Chan of Hong Kong Island Federation joined in the photo session to demonstrate their support of the visit.
To start with the tour, experts from the plant took the guests to a platform for a panoramic view of the site. They then proceeded to an exhibition centre consisting of informative panels, models of treatment facilities and multi-media installations. They introduced to the participants the reverse osmosis technology and post-treatment facilities, highlighting that currently the production capacity of potable water at the plant is around 135 million litres per day, equivalent to 5% of daily fresh water consumption in Hong Kong.
