Visit to Sai Wan Ho Marine Police Regional Headquarters and Marine Police Training School

The Maritime Silk Road Society organized a visit to the Marine Police Headquarters and the Marine Police Training School at Sai Wan Ho on 16 December, to learn about the work of Marine Police in protecting Hong Kong's maritime boundary, and to gain a deeper understanding of the Marine Police's duties and contributions to Hong Kong's waters.

The Marine Police Commander first explained the scope of the Marine Police's duties, including marine safety, rescue and search duties, anti-crime, etc. Then, she further elaborated on the specific duties and areas of work of different divisions.

The main duties of the Small Boat Division are marine patrol, combating offences, marine traffic control and rescue, while the main duties of the Marine Unmanned Aircraft System Team are air patrol, search and rescue on hills and inshore search, and disaster or rescue work. Both divisions displayed their various equipment and tools they use, as well as the obstacles they may encounter in their work.

The participants also visited a police boat and had lived experience with the working environment of the Marine Police. The Marine Police Commander introduced the history of the patrol boat, the use of the equipment and their daily work, to enhance the participants' understanding of marine policing work. In addition, the participants also experienced the marine simulation system used for training purposes, where they could simulate driving a speedboat to carry out rescue work at sea, and gained a deeper understanding of the hardship and difficulties encountered by the Marine Police during their operations.

The Marine Police Commander then talked about the history of the Marine Police Headquarters and its development. She also explained the major events in the history of the Marine Police's operation and led the participants to visit the office environment and view the model of the police boat, explaining the details and key points of the police officers when they are on duty.

Finally, participants actively participated in the Q&A session and asked questions in a cordial atmosphere.
