A Glimpse of Sanxingdui – Luncheon Seminar

2023-11-25

The “A Glimpse of Sanxingdui – Luncheon Seminar” organized by Maritime Silk Road Society was held on 25 November in so330, a social enterprise restaurant in Wan Chai. Dr Tianlong Jiao, Head Curator of The Hong Kong Palace Museum, was the guest speaker.

The participants enjoyed their lunch before Dr Jiao gave his presentation. His presentation started with the commencement of China’s Bronze Age in 2,000BCE and moved on to the development of various Sanxingdui regions. He also explained how “Sanxingdui” was named, as well as the three phases of “bronzization”: the commencement period, expansion period, and flourishing period. He then showed the daily lives of the people in Sanxingdui by demonstrating its map, in order to let the participants have a deeper understanding of the ancient Shu (Sichuan) civilization. During his presentation, Dr Jiao showcased various archaeological discoveries from Sanxingdui and discussed their crafting features, some of which are being displayed at the “Gazing at Sanxingdui: New Archaeological Discoveries in Sichuan” in The Hong Kong Palace Museum until 8 January 2024.

During the seminar, participants proactively interacted with Dr Jiao and expressed wishes to visit Sichuan’s Sanxingdui archaeological site.
