Dr Johnny Hon Spoke on “Exploring Future Opportunities”

The “Exploring Future Opportunities” seminar co-organized by Maritime Silk Road Society (MSRS) and Savantas Policy Institute (SPI) was held in Hong Kong Art in Wan Chai on 20 September. Dr Johnny Hon, Chairman Emeritus of Global Group, Vice President of New People’s Party and Honorary Advisor of MSRS was the speaker of the seminar.

Speaking at the opening of the seminar, Mrs Regina Ip, Co-Chair of MSRS, Chairperson of SPI, President of New People’s Party, and LegCo Member, introduced Dr Hon who graduated from King’s College London with a degree in BSc Biomedical Science. Dr Hon also holds postgraduate qualifications from London University and Business School, Harvard Business School, as well as a Ph.D. in Psychiatry at Hughes Hall College at the University of Cambridge. He is also a guest professor at various renowned universities in Asia. Additionally, Dr Hon is a benefactor and investor in film and television. His philanthropic work is well documented and he serves on the committees of numerous international charities. Politically, he is the Honorary Consul for Grenada in Hong Kong as well as the country’s Ambassador-at-Large.

Seminar participants included Mr Joseph Chan, Honorary Advisor of MSRS and Chairman of Silk Road Economic Development Research Center; Dr C.K. Wong, Founder and Chairman of iASPEC Technologies Group, as well as professionals from various industries and university students.

During the talk, Dr Johnny Hon discussed the application of the five categories of new technology: blockchain, neurotechnology, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Extended Reality (XR), and Internet of Things (IoT). He concluded that Hong Kong people should capitalize on the opportunities brought about by innovative technologies in business and daily life. Finally, he highlighted the potential opportunities of innovation and technology development of each city in the Greater Bay Area.

After that, Dr Hon responded to questions from the participants. He gave the participants a holistic vision of how to develop a better cryptocurrency system, how to attract young people to take their career a step further to work in the Greater Bay Area, and how Hong Kong can initiate more tech skills in different industries.
