"Maritime Silk Road" Chinese Language Summer Course Commenced in Greece

2019-06-19

Maritime Silk Road Society and Euroterra Capital jointly supported the "Maritime Silk Road" Chinese Language Summer Course for the period of 19 June till 17 July. The course took place in Lefkada, Greece, in purpose to facilitate trans-regional exchange through introduction of Chinese language and culture.

Course tutor Professor Liu is from Xinjiang who now resides in Lefkada. Below is a summary of the interview with her.

Chinese is a challenging language to learn at first. You are required to familiarise yourself with foreign ideograms and phonetics. But once you understand the mechanism and rules behind, it can become much easier to practice. Last year Professor Wang’s class spent only one month to master greetings and simple conversational Chinese. However, they were studying every day. If you only study once or twice a week, the progress will be considerably slower. Down the path you may want to get a language certificate. Young students may try the Youth Chinese Test (YCT), and adults may tackle the Chinese Proficiency Test, also known as Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi (HSK).
