Mr Alex Wong Discussed “The Belt and Road Initiative and Its Implications on Youth Development” with Island District Students

The Island District Office invited Mr Alex Wong, CEO of MSRS to speak on “The Belt and Road Initiative” and its implications on youth development at a sharing session called “The Belt and Road Series - Success Story of a Housing Estate Youth-Turned-Entrepreneur at Azerbaijan” on 13 May. Mr Henry Wong, an entrepreneur who established a successful logistics business in Hong Kong and Central Asia against all odds was the other speaker. The session was attended by around 30 Island District secondary school students.

After briefly introducing “The Belt and Road Initiative”, Mr Wong explained the wide-ranging business opportunities for Hong Kong brought about by the Initiative. He outlined the challenges and opportunities for the younger generation and encouraged the students to venture outside Hong Kong with a positive attitude. Mr Wong highlighted the annual summer internship programme “Operation Zhang Qian” operated by the MSRS as a great way for students to gain global work exposure and experience at the undergraduate level with companies which offer placements in “The Belt and Road” region. In 2016, 111 Hong Kong university students took up internship positions in 11 countries from 18 organisations.
