Guided tour on “Across the Oceans: the Local Connections and Global Dimensions of China’s Maritime Silk Road”

2016-11-02

On 2 November, around 30 members of the Maritime Silk Road Society, and students and alumni of the Savantas Liberal Arts Academy joined a guided tour on “Across the Oceans: the Local Connections and Global Dimensions of China’s Maritime Silk Road”. In the hour-long tour, the participants travelled back in time to visit eight Maritime Silk Road cities and Hong Kong so as to explore a major conduit for foreign trade in ancient China, the Maritime Silk Road.

The exhibition is currently held at the Hong Kong Museum of History until 27 December. Featuring the cultural relics from eight Maritime Silk Road cities (including Penglai, Yangzhou, Ningbo, Fuzhou, Quanzhou, Zhangzhou, Guangzhou and Beihai) and Hong Kong, the exhibition elaborates on the roles and functions each had as they grew and prospered on the Maritime Silk Road. The exhibition also reflects upon the impact and contributions of the Maritime Silk Road on the development of the world’s civilisations.
