Mrs Regina Ip Spoke at Belt and Road Conference 2018

2018-10-29

The Belt and Road Conference 2018, co-organized by China Daily and Silk Road Economic Development Research Center, with Maritime Silk Road Society (MSRS) as a supporting organization, was successfully held on 29 October. The event took place at Grand Hyatt Hong Kong with a renewed emphasis on “Tapping Belt and Road Opportunities in the Greater Bay Area”. More than 300 guests attended the function.

Mrs Regina Ip, Co-Chair of MSRS, spoke on stage as a panelist at the session “When the Belt meets the Road in Hong Kong”. She remarked that Hong Kong’s colourful ethnic diversity from Southern Chinese and Southeast Asian origins could lend strength to establishing people-to-people bond in Belt and Road countries. She noted that it was crucial to recognise the Chinese roots of the Silk Road and to educate new generations of our common heritage, thus develop Belt and Road based on the groundwork laid by precursors.

In addition to finance and technology industries, Mrs Regina Ip considered trades such as arbitration and risk insurance as possible benefiters with Hong Kong’s involvement in the Initiative.

Mrs Regina Ip later conversed with a young panelist from Wah Yan College’s English Debating Team offstage on the topic of enhancing youth education on Belt and Road.

The Conference concluded with a keynote luncheon.
