Mr Alex Wong Gave Presentation to Guangdong Officials

2018-09-18

On 18 September, by invitation of Lingnan University and Federation of Hong Kong Chiu Chow Community Organizations, Mr Alex Wong, CEO of Maritime Silk Road Society, gave a presentation on The Role of Hong Kong under the Belt and Road Initiative. The sharing session was attended by around 40 officials from East Guangdong Province.

After a brief introduction on “The Belt and Road Initiative”(BRI), Mr Wong examined the role of Hong Kong under the BRI and the risks associated with BRI since it was proposed five years ago. In view of the close relationship between Hong Kong and East Guangdong Province, he pointed out that it is important for both parties to seize the developmental opportunities provided under the BRI.

Mr Wong reckoned that people should pay special attention to risks of geopolitics, debt default, corruption, legal system, internet and culture. Based on the “One Country, Two Systems” arrangement, Hong Kong can provide international talents, professional services and a financial platform to the “Belt and Road” regions and countries to prevent or mitigate such risks.

Mr Wong also shared his views on Sino-US trade friction, urban development and how cities can play an active role to facilitate the implementation of the BRI with all participants.
