2017-09-02

Mrs Regina Ip, Co-Chair of the Maritime Silk Road Society, participated in the HKU -- Durham Global Economic Forum: “Ascension or Decline? -- HK as the Super-connector in One Belt, One Road” on 2 September. The forum, held at the University of Hong Kong, was co-hosted by Durham University Hong Kong Public Affairs and Social Service Society and China Study Society, HKUSU with a view to providing a platform for speakers from the political field to share with students their insights on the opportunities and challenges of the Belt and Road.

Addressing about 70 local and overseas students, Mrs Ip gave a brief introduction of the Belt and Road Initiative and the work of MSRS in the past two years, in particular the summer internship programme for undergraduates to work in Belt and Road countries. She also encouraged students to embrace openness and reach out to Belt and Road countries to uncover new opportunities.

Mrs Ip also joined in a discussion with other panelists including Mr James Ng, Counsel, Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre; Mr Raymond Mak Ka-chun, Executive Director, Hong Kong Academy of Politics & Public Policy; and Dr Bernard Chan Pak-li, Under Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development Bureau.
