Data Center Joint Tour - China Unicom (Hong Kong) Global Center

2017-08-12

In the afternoon of 12 August 2017, around 30 members and students of the Maritime Silk Road Society and Savantas Liberal Arts Academy joined a tour to the “China Unicom (Hong Kong) Global Center – Data Center”. The tour aimed to give participants an idea of the latest developments in data centers and how Hong Kong can play the role of information hub under the Belt and Road Initiative. The tour included a visit to the facilities of the data center and a briefing and discussion session with China Unicom’s representatives.

The China Unicom (Hong Kong) Global Center in Tseung Kwan O is by far the largest and most advanced cloud data center established by Chinese telecom operators outside the Mainland.  Equipped with 4,000 cabinets, China Unicom’s global data center meets the Tier 3 international standard and is connected with regions such as North America, Southeast Asia, Middle-east, Europe and Africa.

By leveraging Hong Kong’s advantages as an international financial center with a secure environment, free flow of information, excellent infrastructure and a pool of talents, China Unicom Hong Kong’s global data center provides professional service to its partners in areas including cloud computing, IT and big data. We expect that the Data Center will further strengthen Hong Kong’s smart city blueprint to create an intelligent and more livable city.

The tour lasted for two hours.  All participants were deeply impressed.
