Mr. Wong Kyin Pyu gave presentation at Maritime Silk Road Summit in Xiamen

2016-12-17

On 17 December, Mr. Wong Kyin Pyu, Vice-President of Maritime Silk Road Society’s Executive Committee and Chairman of Hong Kong Myanmar Overseas Chinese Association, gave a presentation on “One-belt-one-road Initiative from the Perspectives of Political Stability in Myanmar and the Importance of Developing Traditional Sino-Myanmar Relations”. His presentation was delivered at the “2nd 21st Century Maritime Silk Road Summit” held at Xiamen, China.

The theme of the Summit was “ASEAN and 21st Century Maritime Silk Road”.  According to Mr Wong, Myanmar has a prominent role to play in implementations of the “Belt and Road Initiative”. However, the question lies in whether Sino-Myanmar cooperation can succeed or not, the stability of current political situation in Myanmar, and the long-term friendly relationship between China and Myanmar.

Mr Wong also noted that regional economic integration should be enhanced in order to create a favoured and open environment for long-term development with the support of Myanmar and other ASEAN countries. Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation should take initiative in guidance and coordination to remove any barriers for more deepening and broadening of openness, exchange and integration in Asia-Pacific regions.
