Seminar on “One Belt One Road and a Prosperous Africa”

The South African Consulate-General (Hong Kong SAR & Macao SAR) held a seminar entitled “One Belt One Road and a Prosperous Africa” at the University of Hong Kong on 30 November with the Maritime Silk Road Society (MSRS) as a co-organizer. The seminar was attended by over 80 participants.
The seminar focused on opening a dialogue on how greater synergy can be achieved between the Africa’s Agenda 2063 and the OBOR, and Hong Kong’s position as a platform for financing infrastructure projects and its related financial services.
During the seminar, Mr CL Wang, Advisor of the Maritime Silk Road Society, gave a presentation on the maritime trade development. In his in-depth analysis, he provided an overview of the Belt and Road Initiative and the connectivity between China and African countries.
Mrs Phumelele Gwala, Consul-General of South Africa, delivered welcome remarks. Other speakers of the seminar included Mr Jacque De Vos, Director of Investec (Beijing) Limited and Ms Pansy Yau, Deputy Director Research of Hong Kong Trade and Development Council.
